We have finally finished PARCC testing! Thank you for your help bringing the students to school on time and well rested. This week we continued our novel study by creating our own illustration and starting a narrative about moving to a new place just like Lowgi.

In math we have been continuing to work with equivalent and simple fractions. You will find a link below to help the students with equivalent fractions.

In Science we have been continuing to talk about matter and measuring matter. We will have a science review and test next week.

We have begun a new unit in Social Studies focusing on Citizenship. All of the president reports were very well written!

This week in first grade: In Language Arts, our essential question will be: How do people work with animals? We will be discussing and reading about the different ways people work with animals. Our spelling words will focus on the long e sound, spelled with ey and y. Our topics will also include adverbs that tell when and commas in a series. In Math, we will be finishing up telling time with quarters (ex: 9:15, 9:45) and we will begin working on organizing and representing data to ask and answer questions. In Science, we will be working with Electricity and Magnetism.

We will be sending home Reading Logs starting on Monday, 3/23!

Reading/Language Arts: We continue to practice reading and writing through our sight words, decodeable books, and journals. Be sure to practice reading sight words and blending daily!
Mathematics: We are also learning about comparing shapes and creating shapes as well as solid figures. We are also getting a jump start on first grade - learning more about addition and subtraction.
Science: We are learning about plants and animals and where they live and grow. We are also learning about the Earth and Sky.
Social Studies: How do you read a map? What are some parts of a map?

March has been a busy month in class. We have covered rhythms (K-2nd), gymnastics (4th-5th), and striking with the hand (3rd).

During the next few weeks, we will focus on health-related fitness. Activities will focus on the components of fitness (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength/muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition).
