  2nd Grade News

Friendship/Spirit Week was so much fun last week! We all enjoyed making new friends at lunch, swapping treats on Tuesday, learning about anti-bullying from a real life Prince George's County Police Officer on Tuesday, dressing up as a "twin" with a dear friend, and generally sharing good spirits with one another.

We will be finalizing our timelines in Social Studies and Math. In Math we will be reviewing place value, skip counting and number sense; in addition to continuing our timed basic math facts quizes. In Miss Marsh's class we have ALL mastered addition and are now working on either subtraction or multiplication. Special congratulations to Daden Grogan who was the first to master multiplication and is currently working on division. Parents, please go to www.mathfactcafe.com to print out practice tests. Another website is www.playkidsgames.com where you can choose which operation to work in and which degree of difficulty. Help your child succeed in Math and check it out! Remember, the sequence is: addition, subtraction, multiplication and finally division.

Parents, if you find any additional websites for math practice, please send us a note or drop us a line via Class Dojo!

Our theme in Reading this week is "Working Together". Please have a conversation with your child about this topic to support our academic efforts here in school. Don't forget to complete the revised Reading Log each night. Please note, the new logs require initials from BOTH parents and students in addition to the book title and author and minutes read.

In Science we are continuing our unit called "physical and chemical changes of matter."

  Father's Forum

We appreciate the 17 fathers that attended the Father's Forum. The fathers discussed support for their children's academics, fatherhood, and support for the school. Strategies and concerns were also shared for raising Tech Savvy children.

We thank Mr. Jamal Salisbury for facilitating the forum. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Thomas Adams, Mr. Adekunle Adegorusi, Mr. Akinbode Akinmutimi, Mr. Ray Barrier, Mr. Demetric Baylor, Mr. Ousmane Bayo, Mr. Benjamin Champion II, Mr. Patrick Gray, Mr. Paul Holden, Mr. Randolph Howard, Mr. Terrance J. Kelley, Mr. Clifton Oliphant, Mr. Rick Pannell, Mr. Greg Russell, Mr. Anthony Stills, and Mr. Antonio Wiggins. Our fathers are a excellent collection of talent!

The Father's Forum is a networking and outreach event adopted from the PGCPS #FatherhoodForum15 that was initiated by Mr. Curtis Valentine, Member-At-Large PGCPS Board of Education. Refreshments were also sponsored by the PGCPS Board of Education.

Below is a message read to the fathers:

"Thanks to Jamal Salisbury to stepping up and being a great Dad to Cassidy and Cameron, and being a great champion for CMIT. Thanks to Principal Elam-Respass for championing parent engagement. My hope is that each of you will continue to be active at home, in your community and at CMIT as we continue to fight to make our system second to none. Please take this time to interact with other fathers, share best ideas for being a great father, be honest about what your struggling with and be a support for one another. I will make sure to be at the next FatherhoodForum. Tonight, take pics, post to social media and tag #FatherhoodForum so we can show the world that our fathers are leading in PGCPS...oh yeah, enjoy the food too!"
