Big shout out to Sydney Thomas and Favor Hammond for representing Kindergarten at the Talent Show! We're proud of you! Awesome job!

We are looking for donations for this year's promotion. Please refer to the flyer sent home last week or on our grade level website for details.

Reading/Language Arts: Our story this week is The House that Tony Lives In. We continue to practice reading and writing through our sight words, decodeable books, and journals. Be sure to practice reading sight words and blending daily!

Mathematics: We are jumping into first grade by strengthening our foundational skills in subtraction. We will spend this month working with manipulatives and using different strategies for subtracting.

Science: We are learning about motion and force. Ask students: what does it take to go down a slide? What makes you go faster?

Social Studies: We are learning about home and places people and animals live.

  1st Grade

This week in first grade: In Language Arts, our essential question is How can weather affect us? Students will be talking and reading about different kinds of weather and how it affects our lives. Our spelling words will focus on the silent letters /kn/, /wr/, and /gn/. Some of our other focuses will include pronouns, special pronouns, antonyms, and possessive pronouns. In Math, we will continue our unit in Geometry. We will continue building with shapes, as well as begin learning about solid figures. In Science, we are focusing on the essential question: How do living and non-living things interact with their environment? We will be comparing similar features in some animals and plants and explain how each of these enables the organism to satisfy basic needs.

***FIELD TRIP TO BALTIMORE ZOO*** Please return all money and permission slips for the field trip by June 3, 2015. Our trip is on Monday, June 8, 2015. Remember that your child needs a bagged lunch for this trip!

Be sure to check Class Dojo!

We are very excited about our upcoming trip to Camp Schmidt. We will leave the school this Thursday June 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. and return Friday June 5, 2015 at 12:00 p.m.!

Students did an amazing job selling items at the talent show. Way to be little entrepreneurs!

Students have been practicing converting time in math. In science, students are watching the life cycle of 5 painted butterflies that we received when they were larva.
