Dear CMIT Families,

My name is Gonul Ozturk and I am honored to be the new principal of Chesapeake Math and IT Elementary Public Charter School.

I bring to CMIT Elementary several years of experience as a part of the administration team at CLF Schools in both Chesapeake Science Point and CMIT North High School. Prior to my service as an administrative team member, I served as a secondary math teacher for thirteen years which includes overseas experience and with the Baltimore City Public School System.

On a  personal note, I have been married for 20 years with a wonderful husband and I am the mother of three daughters. Starting with my youngest one, Ahsen, who is eleven years old and will start her middle school years at Chesapeake Science Point. I also have a thirteen-year-old, Azra, who will attend the Howard Community College Early college program. My oldest is a nineteen-year-old, Zuleyha, who will be a senior at University of Maryland College Park and is currently preparing herself for the medical school application process. They are all keeping me busy but very happy!

My history with CMIT Elementary starts with the charter school application process. I was a leader of the educational design team that focused on the technology integration. I am so happy to have this wonderful opportunity to be involved again at the leadership level. I strongly believe that with your continued support along with CLF and the Prince George’s County Public School System, we have a strong partnership. This will be will be a proactive and exciting school year for me, my team, and our students.

I strongly believe that communication is an important aspect of an effective school community. For that reason, I am organizing parent workshops. The goal is to hear your perspective as a parent and partner and to listen to your advice, suggestions, and ideas. Together we can do great things for children!

Summer is rapidly coming to an end and I look forward to the opportunity to meet and begin my relationship with the students, staff, and families of the CMIT Elementary.  I  can be reached via email gozturk@cmitelementary.org or just stop by to introduce yourself any time as my door is always open.
